ART CLASS: “THIS ISN’T…”

On Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at the Center for Research and Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (CED), STEM class students had an engaging art lesson on the theme “This Isn’t…”.

During the lesson, under the guidance of the teacher, the students took part in the following activities:

• Warming up with a circle: The students were divided into two teams and came up with different everyday objects that could be associated with a circle, such as a clock, a ball, and many other images. Through the activity, the students practiced observation and association while enjoying a friendly team challenge.

• Exploring a crescent shape: Starting with a crescent shape, the students were given the prompt, “This shape isn’t the moon. It is…”. Each student was free to use their imagination to transform the familiar shape into new images such as a bird, a bowl of noodles, a bowl of Vietnamese vermicelli, a ball, a banana, and many other objects.

• Developing imagination: The teacher introduced additional visual examples on the board, helping the students discover that the same shape can be interpreted and developed into many different ideas.

• Telling stories through images: With a new challenge using half of a star shape, the students continued creating and were encouraged to develop a story behind each artwork, allowing their creations to express not only an image but also their own ideas and perspectives.

From simple shapes, the students created a variety of interesting and creative artworks. Some transformed the shapes into a bird, while others created familiar foods or playful and unique images. Each artwork reflected the imagination and individual perspective of its creator.

Through the art lesson, the students not only practiced their observation skills and developed their imagination but also had the opportunity to learn how to see familiar things in different ways. From a circle, a crescent, or half of a star, the students learned to transform simple shapes into diverse ideas that reflected their own creativity and individuality.
