COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES: INTERPRETING SUPPORT FOR PEOPLE WITH HEARING LOSS RECEIVING PENSION.
On January 4, 2025, the Center for Research and Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (CED) provided an interpretation for an adult with hearing loss and her family regarding retirement insurance.
Mrs.P is deaf, does not know sign language, is illiterate, and communicates through gestures. The Social Security Agency requested her family to bring an interpreter with them to the agency so that she is able to complete the procedures for receiving a pension. The requirement for interpretation is to support Mrs P to answer the questions of the insurance agency.
Interpretation helps her understand the rights and responsibilities of a worker when she reaches retirement age.
Parents, teachers, people working with the Deaf/Hard of hearing, and authorities who need to learn about issues related to people with hearing loss, please contact CED for advice and support.
