ONLINE CONSULTATION – SUPPORT LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT FOR CHILDREN WITH SPEECH DELAY
On January 31, 2023, Ms. Duong Phuong Hanh - Director of the Center for Research and Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (CED) gave online counseling to parents of children with speech delay. During the counseling session, parents shared their concerns and wanted their children to develop spoken language and confidently go to school like others.
The consultation went through the following steps:
(1) Find out information related to the child:
- Age, age of social awareness, ability to listen and speak at the present time.
- Children's schooling, early intervention, individualized education programs, etc.
- Parent's homeschooling: time, activities, worries, etc.
- The child's interactions with other children, relatives and people around.
(2) From the information about the child provided by the parents, the intervention direction for the child was as follows:
- Parents need to create a positive learning environment to help children practice pronunciation and speaking from common communication activities at home.
- Get your child to talk or offer an alternative activity before responding to his or her request.
Parents were also encouraged to keep informing about their child's progress for assistance in planning their next speech development.
