DEAF AWARENESS

In the spirit of "Deaf Awareness Month" (September every year), the Australian Volunteers Program (AVP), an initiative of the Australian Government, organized an online sharing session on “Deaf Awareness” for AVP volunteers and partners in East Asia on September 12, 2023.

During the program, speakers shared the inconveniences and difficulties of deaf people in living, studying or participating in health care services in the community. In addition, in order for deaf people to be able to access services or receive comprehensive assistance, support such as sign language interpretation is essential. Moreover, the program also had lips-reading skills sharing session.

The spirit of the sharing session was summed up in the Speaker's words: "I receive back more than what I give. My knowledge has been passed down to me by others, and I feel selfish if I don't pass it on to others".

Center for Research and Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (CED), sincerely thanks AVI for creating the opportunity for CED to accompany the stable and sustainable program.
