EXTRACURRICULAR SESSION – MAKING ROSES WITH CREPE PAPER
On February 17, 2023, at the Center for Research and Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (CED), students of the STEM class had an extra-curricular session on "Making roses with crepe paper".
During the extra-curricular session, students:
- Watched the video showing 2 ways to do it: (1) Twist and (2) Seperated petals. They could choose how they would like to do.
- The teacher introduced the necessary materials: colourful crepe paper, glue, thread, scissors, wire (or bamboo toothpick), wax tape, double-sided tape, then each student was called in turn to repeat names of the materials, practicing both object recognition skills and listening and speaking skills.
- Procedure: Under the guidance of the teacher, students step by step made petals, sepals, flower stalks and leaves. If they chose to do the separated style, then they added a step of making the pistil.
At the end of the session, students completed the handmade roses.
The extra-curricular "Making roses with crepe paper" was one of the educational activities at CED, developing the meticulousness and ingenuity inherent in people with hearing loss, encouraging students to make their own decisions as well as helping them in career orientation on the path to social inclusion later.
