EXTRACURRICULAR SESSION – DESIGNING DRIP IRRIGATION SYSTEM & PLANTING SEEDS

At the Center for Research and Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (CED), an extra-curricular session on "Vocational Orientation" was organized on April 7, 2023 with two contents:

1. Design automatic drip irrigation device for plants:

- This is a method of applying osmosis (in chemistry) and the principle of communicating vessels (in physics), widely used in agriculture. With this method, the amount of minerals and water is absorbed directly into the roots, not redundant or wasteful. In particular, the drip irrigation system will help plants have enough water in case we are away for a few days and cannot water the plants.

- With simple materials: empty plastic bottles (depending on the time of absence, use bottles of large or small capacity), nails/threads (instead of watering nozzles), water, funnels.. the students were instructed to design a drip irrigation device for plants.

- Hang the device on a tree (if it is a wooden tree) or put it on the side of a pot (for herbaceous plant).

- Adjust the nail/fabric to allow water to drip as desired.

- Thus, the students were assured that the plants would always be green in the corner of CED even though they were absent for 2 weekends thanks to the tools designed by themselves.

2. Planting seeds:

- The teacher introduced the method of sowing seeds with important factors: Seeds, soil, moisture, sunshine, fertilizer.

- Students observed ornamental ginseng plants with economic value if successfully planted.

- Each student received ornamental ginseng seeds, soil, and nursery jars. Under the guidance of the teacher, they sowed the seeds in the jar.

The above session helped students to be physically active outdoors while also practicing teamwork and problem-solving skills in the spirit of the Center for Research and Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (CED) motto: "Everything is possible".
