WHO AND STIGMA ISSUES
On Tuesday, July 27, 2021, Ms Duong Phuong Hanh – Director of Center for Research and Education of Deaf and Hard of Hearing (CED) was invited to participate in the discussion group to review the draft stigma questions under Lancet Commission on Hearing Loss (LCHL) of the World Health Organization (WHO).
The meeting has included a literature review to identify existing measures, development of a stigma framework, and creation of a set of stigma items based on the literature review and framework.
The meeting is for one of four groups:
- People with lived lifelong experience of being deaf or hard of hearing (from birth or early childhood) whose preferred mode of communication is signing
- People with lived lifelong experience of being deaf or hard of hearing (from birth or early childhood) whose preferred mode of communication is spoken language
- People with lived experience of later-in-life acquired hearing loss (to include mild-moderate and late deafened)
- Parents of children who are hard of hearing or deaf
- Service providers - clinicians, researchers and members of associations who provide services
