TRAINING PROGRAM: THE COURSE 78 OF SKILLS IN COMMUNICATION WITH PEOPLE WITH HEARING LOSS (SESSION 7)
On July 19, 2026, the Center for Research and Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (CED) held the seventh session of the Skills in Communication with People with Hearing Loss – Course 78, led by Ms. Duong Phuong Hanh, Director of CED. The class comprised 29 participants, including 17 professionals from the fields of education, healthcare, marketing, business, and tourism, along with 12 students.
In the seventh session, participants learned sign language vocabularies and conversational expressions related to the theme of “Animals”, including:
- Signs for the names of some familiar animals.
- Reviewing and distinguishing the sign for “animal” from the signs for “color” and “biology”, as they share some similarities in the way they are performed.
- Practicing question and answer sentence patterns about favorite animals, pets at home, and the number of pets, while reviewing previously learned topics such as “Self-introduction”, “Family” and “School”.
At the end of the session, participants were excited to learn the signs for the song “Một con vịt” (One Little Duck) and the piece “Mèo và Chuột” (The Cat and the Mouse). When teaching “Mèo và Chuột”, the instructor presented the content from different points of view, such as that of an outside observer watching the cat and the mouse, or that of the cat when it sees the mouse. Through this activity, participants practiced identifying the characters and the point of view in order to express the content more clearly through sign language.
Sign language is one of two themes in the training program on Skills in Communication with People with Hearing Loss (Deaf, Hard of Hearing, Late-Deafened). The second theme is lip-reading.
