TRAINING ON SKILLS FOR ASSISTING PEOPLE WITH HEARING LOSS (DEAF/ HARD OF HEARING/ LATE DEAFENED) IN HOSPITALS – CLASS 09
On November 19, 20 and 26, 2022, Ms. Duong Phuong Hanh - Director of the Center for Research and Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (CED) trained 13 participants who are health care staff, social workers, and teachers from District 11 Hospital, Children's Hospital 1, City International Hospital, Saigon South International General Hospital, Worldwide Orphans organization, Khanh Hoa Center for Rehabilitation - Education for Children with Disabilities on skills for assisting people with hearing loss in hospitals.
The training provided participants knowledge on:
- Sign language: participants can do at least 20 basic questions about diseases; making video clips with at least 5 sentences for documentation of asking about diseases; knowing how to analyse a sign for self-practice in sign language skills.
- Lipsreading: participants can identify keywords for communication and asking about diseases, as well as understanding how to combine the signs we see.
- Communication skills: understanding the core issues in communication with people with hearing loss, especially late deafened.
- Assisting skills: know what to do when there is no interpreter or the interpreter has not come yet.
CED also offered participants the products which were researched and developed by CED, such as: Handbook to support people with hearing loss in Hospitals, Transparent masks; and tools to assist people with hearing loss: sign language clips on medical examination and treatment, etc., in order to effectively support people with hearing loss.
