TOT TRAINING "SKILLS IN SUPPORTING PEOPLE WITH HEARING LOSS (DEAF/HARD OF HEARING/DEAFENED) IN HOSPITAL"
Ms Duong Phuong Hanh – The director of Center for Research and Education of The Deaf and Hard of Hearing (CED) was invited to National Institute of Medicine and Pharmacy of Hochiminh City to train “Skills in Supporting people with hearing loss (Deaf/ Hard of Hearing/ Deafened) in Hospital” for 18 participants included: Doctors, Chief Nursing Assistants, Social Workers, Pharmacist, from Sep 13th to 15th 2019. These participants will train for thier staff and colleagues at his/her department.
The contents presented in the training were: The basic issues of People with hearing loss and Vietnamese Sign Language, Vietnamese Basic Sign Language and Medical Sign Language, Lipreading, Skills in Communication and Support.
The trainees had:
Experience -- being a Deaf/Hard of Hearing/Deafened.
Identification -- communication support tools.
Understanding and learning – the means of communication.
Sign language – the sentences that may sign to patients with hearing loss.
Determination – the key words in the sentences that medical staff could communicate with patients with hearing loss.
At the end of the training, the participants were instructed to build “Procedure of supporting patients with hearing loss at hospital” at seven Departments.
