HEARING LOSS IS ONLY AN INCONVENIENCE, NOT A MISFORTUNE
On June 24, 2022, Ms. Duong Phuong Hanh, MEd - Director of Center for Research and Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (CED) had a sharing session with students who are currently doing internship and volunteering at CED.
The topic of the sharing session was 'Hearing loss is only an inconvenience, not a misfortune'. The students learned about:
- Information on characteristics and ways of communicating with the community of people with hearing loss (deaf, hard of hearing, late-deafened) along with an active lifestyle, confidently integrating into the community,
- Methods of educating for children with hearing loss.
- Difficulties of people with hearing loss on the path to social inclusion.
In addition, the students also experienced role-playing as people with hearing loss and HEARING through SEEING; discovering the beauty of sign language and lipreading – being able to translate short content expressed in sign language even without learning sign language before, or hearing what the other person saying by lipreading.
Hopefully, after the sharing session, students will be more empathetic with people with hearing loss to join hands to support people with hearing loss as the Mission of the Center for Research and Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (CED) has done and is doing.
