GRADUATE INTERNSHIP EVALUATION

On September 10, 2023, the Center for Research and Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (CED) organized a graduate internship evaluation session for student Le Thi My Hong, Ton Duc Thang University.

Attending the evaluation session, on CED's side were Ms. Duong Phuong Hanh - Director, Ms. To Thi Bich Phuong - Deputy Director and facility supervisor, Ms. Bui Thi Ngoc - STEM class teacher, Mr. Danh Minh Tri - Teacher of the class which Ms. My Hong worked in internship, Ms. Trieu Thuy Mi - Project Manager and activities related to Social Work, former student of Ton Duc Thang School. On the Faculty/University side, Dr. Nguyen Thi Do Quyen, Instructor, and student Le Thi My Hong.

The evaluation session agreed on the following issues:

1. The Faculty representatives proposed that CED organize a sharing session about children with hearing loss and how to communicate so that students can catch up with the internship process at the facility more conveniently.

2. CED representatives:

- CED will provide a sharing session related to children with hearing loss before social work students practice at CED.

- Students will have 15 minutes after each working day to discuss and make suggestions with the class teacher.

- Students will meet with the facility supervisor every Friday during the internship period.

- Students are encouraged to propose activities that apply social work to CED activities.

3. Regarding internship results, the student was evaluated as qualified. The CED side shared more about practical experiences when conducting interventions for clients. Firstly, the client's problems must be presented. Secondly, after choosing an issue that can be intervened in accordance with their capacity and time, students must see what factors affect the client, not just intervene directly with the client. Thirdly, home visiting is important and CED can support students in doing so.

“Whether being social workers or not, we need to practice observing to see if anyone needs help, and do it ourselves without waiting for that person to speak up. Love between people not only helps social workers succeed but also helps people have more happiness in life. Proactively propose activities to apply social work at the facility, students will have valuable experience for their future career." – Ms. Duong Phuong Hanh.
