EXTRACURRICULAR SESSION: STEM-MAKING WATER CANDLES

“Making water candles” was the name of the STEM lesson for students at the Center for Research on Education for the Deaf (CED) on July 15, 2024.

Ignoring physical and chemical knowledge, with only simple, easy-to-find materials such as water, cooking oil, wicks, glass cups, colored pebbles, etc., students were guided through the steps to make water candles that can give off a shimmering light with a glow time equivalent to candles made of wax.

The lesson aims to promote the concentration, meticulousness, dexterity, and creative thinking of students with hearing loss, while also training teamwork skills, life skills (using available materials to create necessary items), forming critical thinking (increasing/decreasing the amount of cooking oil/water affects the light duration of the lamp).

Training life skills and critical thinking, thereby developing problem-solving skills, all so that the inclusive path for students is no longer difficult or hindered.

CED believes so, because "Everything is possible", right?
