ACTIVITY REPORT JULY 2020
Center for Research and Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (CED)
On 2nd of July 2020, Center for Research and Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (CED) welcomed 2 students from the Basketball Club of the International School visiting and getting to know CED students. They shared their wish to organize basketball sessions for students with hearing loss in order to introduce basketball, its skills as well as to inspire them about this sport.
On 7th of July 2020, Mr. Nguyen Quang Lam – Assistant to Director of CED briefly introduced about bartender as a career for students of the Education-Vocational Training-Inclusion class.
On 6th of July 2020, Ms. Pham Thuy Duong – Research Assistant of CED welcomed Mr Le Quoc Bao and Ms. Tran Thi Thanh Tam – Tahta Workshop coming to discuss about teaching 3D drawing for CED students.
On 9th – 10th of July 2020, Ms. Pham Thuy Duong – Research Assistant of CED was invited to join the training on “Communication Skills for organizations receiving the 2nd funding from the Justice Initiatives Facilitation Fund (JIFF)” in Hanoi.
On 11th of July 2020, Ms. Ton Nu Thi Nhi – Vice Director of CED – together with teachers, students of CED were invited to join the opening ceremony of the “Silent Moment 2020” Exhibition, which was the biggest event for amateur painters in Ho Chi Minh city. Nearly 100 artworks of amateur painters in HCMC were displayed there at the HCMC’s Exhibition House for art auction fundraising and donating to CED.
On 14th of July 2020, CED joyfully welcomed the group of students from the Basketball Club – BVIS coming to visit and play with CED students. This is the first meeting in the teaching basketball program of the BVIS students for CED students.
On 22nd of July 2020, Ms. Duong Phuong Hanh – Director of CED was invited by Ms Pham My Hanh – researcher at Saint Mary University, Canada for the research project on women’s view of leadership.
On 23rd – 25th of July 2020, Ms. Hua Kim Huong – Social Worker of CED was invited to join the training on “Preventing violence based on gender for children in schools and communities”, organized by Management and Sustainable Development Institute (MSD) in Ho Chi Minh city.
On 24th of July 2020, CED was invited to join the Project “Basketball for Hearing Impaired Kids – BHIKs), which was officially started at the stadium Masteri Thao Dien, under the training and facilitating of the project management board – the votunteer team of BHIKs.
On 24th of July 2020, Ms. Ton Nu Thi Nhi – Vice Director of CED was invited to teach Sign Language for 80 students in Tay Thanh High School in Tan Phu district, Ho Chi Minh city. The purpose for studying sign language was to prepare for the “Hoa Phuong Do” Volunteering Campaign, organized by the Student Union.
On 31st of July 2020, Ms. Pham Thuy Duong – Research Assistant of CED was invited to join the training on “Survey and Research in Project of the Justice Initiatives Facilitation Fund (JIFF)” in Hanoi.
CED’s Hearing Aid Fund Report: In July 2020, CED’s Hearing Aid Fund granted 8 hearing aids for 5 kids/adults with hearing loss (2 males, 3 females) living in the poor families:
1. Nguyen Tien Minh Viet: 1 hearing aid (Ha Nam)
2. Nguyen Hoang Tam: 2 hearing aids (Vinh Long)
3. Truong Hoang Nhu Huyen: 2 hearing aids (Ho Chi Minh city)
4. Vo Ngoc Hoang Nhat: 2 hearing aids (Ho Chi Minh city)
5. Nguyen Tran Hoang My: 1 hearing aid (Hanoi)
On behalf of the children, CED respectfully thanks to the German Lions Foundation and Hear And Say for granting the hearing aids and thanks to Quang Duc Hearing Aid Service Company for installing the devices.
Peer Consultation/Counseling
In July, Center for Research and Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (CED) conducted 88 consultation/counseling cases on education, hearing aids, consultation for parents who have dificulties in teaching children with hearing loss, sign language, etc…
