Part 1: CED activities
- On December 2, 2021, Ms. To Thi Bich Phuong and Ms. Bui Thi Ngoc represented for Center for Education and Research of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (CED) had an orientation meeting on “Social network interactive communication” with the student group of the University of Economics and Finance (UEF), facilitated by Ms. Dinh Nguyen Thien An and Ms. Tran Thi My Phuong of the UEF Service Learning Center.

- On Thursday, December 9, 2021, Center for Research and Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (CED) organized the online consultation workshop on policies supporting people with hearing loss (Deaf, Hard of Hearing, Late. Deafened) in medical examination and treatment in hospitals. There were 63 participants at the workshop, including People’s Teacher - Dr. Dang Huynh Mai – former Deputy Minister of Education and Training, President of the Vietnam Federation of Disability (VFD), Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Van – representative of the sponsor – the Secretary of JIFF- Oxfam Vietnam, representatives from the HCMC Department of Health, Department of Science and Technology, the People’s Committee of Ward 15, Phu Nhuan District, doctors, teachers from special schools, people with hearing loss and their parents.

- On December 11, 2021, Center for Research and Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (CED) organized the sixth meeting in the series of 6 follow-up meetings after the “Sign Language Interpreter Training” course, in order to continue supporting participants in knowledge exchange, skill practicing and experience sharing.

- On December 14, 2021, Ms. Duong Phuong Hanh - Director of CED consulted online for the parents of a child with hearing loss living in Norway, in order to help her increasing her pronunciation ability.

- On December 17, 18, 19, 2021, Center for Research and Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing organized free medical examination and treatment sessions for people with hearing loss in order to help people with hearing loss understand about their health condition, being consulted on health care for timely treatment. Besides, people with hearing loss who wished to have legal consultation on procedure for certification of disability, procedure on Health Insurance. Issues related to rights and benefits, policies for people with hearing loss were consulted freely.

- On December 17, 18, 19 and 21, 2021, Center for Research and Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (CED) connected with the Clinic 548 Nguyen Chi Thanh and some doctors of the Phuoc Long Clinic in organizing medical examination and treatment, giving free medicine for people with hearing loss. This is the activity in the framework of the project “Promoting the initial legal support and implementation of regulations on medical examination and treatment for people with hearing loss (deaf, hard of hearing and deafened)” of CED, sponsored by EU through JIFF-Oxfam.

- On the two Mondays of December 20 and 27, 2021, CED’s project team had 2 meetings in order to check all preparation works for the closing workshop of the project “Promoting the initial legal support and implementation of regulations on medical examination and treatment for people with hearing loss (deaf, hard of hearing and deafened)” .

- On December 27, 2021, representatives from Mr. Le Minh Hung – USA came to Center for Research and Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (CED) giving 1000 USD to support CED’s activities.

- On December 28, 2021, representatives of Center for Research and Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (CED) had a meeting with representatives from the Action to the Community Development Institute (ACDC) in order to collaborate in legal consultation for people with hearing loss.

- On December 29, 2021, Center for Research and Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (CED) organized the closing workshop of the project “Promoting the initial legal support and implementation of regulations on medical examination and treatment for people with hearing loss (deaf, hard of hearing and deafened)”, sponsored by EU through JIFF-Oxfam, with the participation of 83 people who were representatives from organizations, teachers, parents, people with hearing loss.

- On December 30, 2021, Ms. Duong Phuong Hanh - Director of Center for Research and Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (CED) was invited to participate in a research interview on the topic "Strategic Management for Social Enterprises in Vietnam during the Covid-19 pandemic: Applying a value chain analysis tool", conducted by lecturers and students of the Faculty of Global Studies and Social Enterprise, Thammasat University, Thailand.

- On December 30, 2021, Ms. Duong Phuong Hanh - Director of CED consulted online to parents of the child with disability living in Thu Duc, HCMC, who has difficulty in speaking and pronouncing, in order to help the child improve his pronunciation.

Part 2: CED’s Hearing Aid Fund Report
In December 2021, CED’s Hearing Aid Fund is still checking for granting hearing aids for new cases, because the Covid situation is still complex and thus it is difficult for families to travel in receiving hearing aids. CED will continue to accompany with families in order to give hearing aids for children as soon as possible, helping them best in their study.
CED is continue to note of wishes on joining the hearing aids granting program for children with hearing loss in poor families. Parents who have children with hearing loss under 18 years old and want to register for hearing aids, please send the audiogram to email: dphanh@trungtamkhiemthinh.org

We would kindly ask family whose children get approved for granting hearing aids to contribute 100.000 VND/hearing aid to the Hearing Aid Fund for children with hearing loss in poor families.

Part 3: Peer Consultation/Counseling
In December, Center for Research and Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (CED) conducted 81 consultation/counseling cases on education, sign language, trainings on education for children with hearing loss and skills for assisting people with hearing loss, jobs recommendations, hearing aids, consulting parents having difficulties in raising children with hearing loss, connecting and collaborating with other organizations…
