Legal communication workshops

 

Continued with the series of legal communication activity for communities of people with hearing loss, their parents, teachers/supporters, health care officers in hospitals from the project “Promoting the initial legal support and implementation of regulations on medical examination and treatment for people with hearing loss (deaf, hard of hearing and deafened)”, funded by the Justice Initiatives Facilitation Fund (JIFF), that CED is implementing, in December 2020, with the sharing by Lawyer - Ms. Nguyen Thi Xuan Huong, Director of Center of Legal Counseling for the Poor in HCMC, CED organized 6 workshops as following:

 

- For 25 primary students with hearing loss at the Vocational Training and Job Supporting Center for People with Disabilities in HCMC on Wednesday morning December 16, 2020;

- For 15 parents and 1 teacher at the Vocational Training and Job Supporting Center for People with Disabilities in HCMC on Wednesday afternoon December 16, 2020;

- For 35 social workers in hospitals and students at Ly Nhon primary school;

- For 32 deaf people at HCMC Deaf Club;

- For 14 Sign Language interpreters at CED;

- For 31 junior high school students with hearing loss at the Vocational Training and Job Supporting Center for People with Disabilities in HCMC on Wednesday afternoon December 23, 2020.

 

This talk aimed at communicating legal knowledge on rights of people with disabilities in daily life, especially about health insurance and medical examination and treatment. The lawyer also listened and answered questions from participants.

 

At this workshop, participants also answered the survey “Assessing capability of hospitals in meeting the needs of patients with hearing loss: Case study “Vietnam Hospital Quality Standard””, in order to findout the best solution for supporting patients with hearing loss (deaf, hard of hearing, deafened) in medical examination and treatment at hospitals. 

 

Participants sincerely shared about their difficulties when going to hospitals for medical examination and treatment. They also suggested many ideas like giving priorities for people with hearing loss in medical examination and treatment at hospitals, applying technology supporting people with hearing loss in medical examination and treament in remote areas such as online sign language interpretation, emergency app with GPS for deaf and hard of hearing people…
